ABSTRACT: The title compound, [V(2)F(2)O(4)(C(12)H(8)N(2))(2)], is a centrosymmetric binuclear vanadium(V) species with the metal ions in a distorted octa-hedral environment. The symmetry-equivalent V(V) atoms exhibit coordination geometries defined by cis-terminal fluoride and oxide groups, unsymmetrically bridging oxide groups and the N-atom donors of the phenanthroline ligands. The crystal packing is stabilized by weak inter-molecular C-H?O and C-H?F hydrogen bonds.

The coordination geometries of the symmetry-equivalent molybdenum sites are defined by the cis-terminal oxide groups and the N-atom donors of the bipyridyl ligand in the equatorial plane with axial F and bridging O atoms. The bridging O atom occupies a center of symmetry. The mol-ecules stack in the a-axis direction, and the crystal packing is stabilized by weak intra- and inter-molecular C-H?O and C-H?F hydrogen bonds.

The V(V) atom is six-coordinated by three oxide O atoms, one O atom from a vanillinate ligand and two N atoms from a 1,10-phenanthroline ligand in a significantly distorted octa-hedral geometry. In the crystal structure, weak inter-molecular C-H?O hydrogen bonds connect the mol-ecules into a three-dimensional network.

This anion is surrounded by a first shell of ammonium cations and water mol-ecules, forming efficient N-H⋯O and O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds. A second shell includes metforminium monocations with a twisted geometry, also forming numerous inter-molecular hydrogen bonds. The complex three-dimensional network of non-covalent inter-actions affords a crystal structure in which the cations and anions are densely packed.

The bridging dianion leads to [001] chains in the crystal. The chains are linked by O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, involving both the coordinated and uncoordinated water mol-ecules, thereby forming a two-dimensional network.

Project description:The title compound, (C4H12N5)4(C2H7N4O)2[V10O28]·4H2O, is a by-product obtained by reacting ammonium metavanadate(V), metformin hydro-chloride and acetic acid in the presence of sodium hypochlorite, at pH = 5. The crystal structure comprises a deca-vanadate(V) anion (V10O28)6- lying on an inversion centre in space group P , while cations and solvent water mol-ecules are placed in general positions, surrounding the anion, and forming numerous N-H⋯O and O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds. Metforminium (C4H12N5)+ and guanylurea (C2H7N4O)+ cations display the expected shape. Inter-estingly, in physiology the latter cation is known to be the main metabolite of the former one. The reported structure thus supports the role of sodium hypochlorite as an oxidizing reagent being able to degrade metformin hydro-chloride to form guanylurea.

The ansa-molybdocene [C(2)Me(4)(η(5)-C(5)H(4))(2)]Mo unit has a typical bent-sandwich metallocene structure with an inter-ring angle of 127.98 (8)°. The Mo atom in the bridging (μ(2)-O)(μ(3)-O)(2)MoO(2) group has a distorted trigonal-bipyramidal coordination. The Mo-(μ(3)-O) and Mo-(μ(2)-O) bond distances inside the units [2.0869 (14) and 2.1014 (15) Å, respectively] are slightly longer than the Mo(-x + 1, -y + 1, -z)-(μ(3)-O) bond distance between the units [1.9986 (14) Å]. The solvent water mol-ecules together with complex O atoms form a network of O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds.

Each Sn atom has a distorted trigonal-bipyramidal geometry, with the equatorial plane formed by an oxido O atom and two C atoms of two benzyl anions. Project description:The title copper coordination polymer, [Cu(3)(C(8)H(4)O(4))(2)(C(8)H(5)O(4))(2)(C(10)H(8)N(2))(2)](n), was synthesized by reacting Cu(NO(3))(2), isophthalic acid and 1,10-phenanthroline under hydro-thermal conditions. The trinuclear unit presents a central almost planar CuO(4) chromophore with the cation on a symmetry center, and two symmetry-related CuN(2)O(3) groups with the metal centre in a distorted square-pyramidal environment. These units are bridged by isophthalate ligands into one-dimensional double-chain coordination polymers which are, in turn, connected by various π-π stacking inter-actions (face-to-face distance ca 3.45 Å) and O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming a three-dimensional supra-molecular network.
