ABSTRACT: In the title compound, [CdCl(2)(C(13)H(19)N(3)O)], the Cd(II) ion is penta-coordinated with the N,N,O-tridentate Schiff base 2-{[2-(piperazin-4-ium-1-yl)eth-yl]imino-meth-yl}phenolate ligand and two Cl atoms in a highly distorted square-pyramidal geometry; the piperazine ring adopts a chair conformation. In the crystal structure, adjacent mol-ecules are linked together via N-H?O and N-H?Cl hydrogen bonds, forming infinite layers parallel to the ab plane. The layers are further connected through C-H?Cl inter-actions into a three-dimensional network.

The Schiff base ligand employs its phenolate O and imine N atoms to coordinate the metal atom in a bidentate mode. Two Cl atoms complete the tetra-hedral coordination environment. In the crystal, a pair of N-H?O hydrogen bonds connect the mol-ecules into a centrosymmetric dimer. C-H?O, C-H?Cl and C-H?? inter-actions are also observed.

Project description:The title mononuclear zinc complex, [ZnCl(2)(C(17)H(26)N(2)O(2))], was obtained by the reaction of 2-hy-droxy-4-meth-oxy-benzaldehyde, N-cyclo-hexyl-propane-1,3-diamine and zinc chloride in methanol. The Zn(II) atom is four-coordinated by the phenolate O atom and imine N atom of the bidentate zwitterionic Schiff base ligand 2-{[3-(cyclo-hexyl-amino)-prop-yl]imino-meth-yl}-5-meth-oxy-phenol, and by two chloride ions, generating a distorted ZnONCl(2) tetra-hedral geometry. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked by N-H?O hydrogen bonds, forming chains along the c-axis direction.

Project description:The structure of the title salt, C(13)H(20)N(3)O(+)·0.94ClO(4) (-)·0.06Cl(-), contains a zwitterionic Schiff base with a net positive charge and a perchlorate anion having substitutional disorder with Cl. In the cation, the azomethine N atom is protonated and donates hydrogen bonds to the phenolate O atom and to the tertiary N atom of the piperazine ring. In the crystal, two Schiff base mol-ecules are linked about a center of inversion by a pair of N-H?O hydrogen bonds. The resulting dimers are N-H?O and C-H?O hydrogen bonded to the perchlorate anions, forming a three-dimensional structure. The network is further consolidated by C-H?? inter-actions.

The Zn(II) atom is four-coordinated by the imine N and the phenolate O atoms of the Schiff base ligand, and by two chloride ions, in a distorted tetra-hedral coordination geometry. The dimethyl-ammonio group is disordered over two positions with site occupancies of 0.51 (3) and 0.49 (3). In the asymmetric unit, there is also a disordered water mol-ecule with a partial occupancy of 0.5. In the crystal structure, the water mol-ecules are linked to the Schiff base complex mol-ecules through inter-molecular N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds. Mol-ecules are further linked through additional inter-molecular N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming chains running along the b axis.
