ABSTRACT: In the title complex, [Co(C(15)H(12)N(3)O(4))(2)Cl(C(6)H(7)N)], the Co(III) ion is coordinated by two N atoms and two O atoms from two deprotonated Schiff base ligands, one N atom from a 4-methyl-pyridine ligand and one Cl atom, forming a distorted octa-hedral geometry. The Co(III) ion is displaced by 0.038?(2)?Å from the equatorial plane towards the axial Cl atom.

The dimethyl sulfoxide mol-ecule is a hydrogen-bond acceptor to the -NH- unit, and O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link mol-ecules into a supra-molecular chain.

Project description:The title compound, [Co(C(4)H(7)N(2)O(2))(2)Cl(C(8)H(9)NO(2))]·CHCl(3), was synthesized as a model complex of vitamin B(12). The Co(III) cation displays an approximately octa-hedral coordination environment, being displaced by 0.0240 (15) Å from the mean plane of the four N atoms of the equatorial plane. The O-H distances in the dimethyl-glyoximate hy-droxy groups are 0.89 (6) and 1.14 (6) Å; such long O-H bonds are very common in cobaloxime derivatives. Weak classical O-H⋯N and non-classical C-H⋯Cl hydrogen-bonding interactions further consolidate the crystal packing.

The ZnL(py) units are linked by π-π inter-actions between adjacent pyridine mol-ecules, with a centroid-centroid distance of 3.724 Å, resulting in a two-dimensional structure.
