Nitro-furan-toin methanol monosolvate.

ABSTRACT: The anti-biotic nitro-furan-toin {systematic name: (E)-1-[(5-nitro-2-fur-yl)methyl-idene-amino]-imidazolidine-2,4-dione} crys-tallizes as a methanol monosolvate, C(8)H(6)N(4)O(5)·CH(4)O. The nitro-furan-toin mol-ecule adopts a nearly planar conformation (r.m.s. deviation = 0.0344?Å). Hydrogen bonds involve the co-operative N-H?O-H?O heterosynthons between the cyclic imide of nitro-furan-toin and methanol O-H groups. There are also C-H?O hydrogen bonds involving the nitro-furan-toin mol-ecules which support the key hydrogen-bonding synthon. The overall crystal packing is further assisted by weak C-H?O inter-actions, giving a herringbone pattern.

The crystal structure confirms the absolute configuration of nine stereocenters determined previously for the acetyl-ated compound metacridamide A. In the crystal, the methanol-d4 mol-ecule is positioned close to the O atom in the carbonyl group of the peptide bond, forming an O-H?O hydrogen bond. It also forms an O-H?O hydrogen bond with an adjacent mol-ecule. N-H?O and O-H?O hydrogen bonds are observed between neighboring mol-ecules.

Project description:The title penta-cyclic oxindole alkadoid, isolated from Uncaria longiflora, crystallizes as a methanol solvate, C(20)H(22)N(2)O(4)·CH(4)O. The five-membered ring comprising the indole fused ring is nearly planar [maximum atomic deviation = 0.031?(2)?Å], whereas the five-membered ring having alphatic C atoms adopts an envelope shape (with the tertiary N atom representing the flap). Adjacent chains are linked by N-H?O hydrogen bonds, forming a layer motif.
