Cis-Diaqua-bis-(2,2'-bipyrimidine-?N,N)manganese(II) bis-(perchlorate) nitro-methane disolvate monohydrate.

ABSTRACT: The asymmetric unit of the title compound, [Mn(C(8)H(6)N(4))(2)(H(2)O)(2)](ClO(4))(2)·2CH(3)NO(2)·H(2)O, contains one half of a cationic Mn(II) complex, a ClO(4) (-) anion, a nitro-methane solvent mol-ecule and one half-mol-ecule of water. The complex mol-ecule and the solvent water mol-ecule are located on a twofold rotation axis. In the complex, the Mn(II) ion has a distorted cis-N(4)O(2) octa-hedral coordination geometry defined by four N atoms of the two chelating 2,2'-bipyrimidine ligands and two O atoms of water mol-ecules. In the crystal, the complex cations, anions and solvent mol-ecules are linked by inter-molecular O-H?N, O-H?O and weak C-H?O hydrogen bonds. The ClO(4) (-) anion is disordered over two sites with a site-occupancy factor of 0.512?(12) for the major component.

The asymmetric unit contains two crystallographically independent half-mol-ecules of the binuclear Mn(II) complex; an inversion centre is located at the centroid of each complex. The two Mn(II) atoms in each complex mol-ecules are bridged by a bis-chelating 2,2'-bipyrimidine (bpym) ligand and each Mn(II) atom is six-coordinated in a considerably distorted octa-hedral environment defined by two N atoms of the bridging bpym ligand and four O atoms from one sulfato anionic ligand and three water mol-ecules. In the crystal, the complex mol-ecules are linked by O-H?O hydrogen bonds between the water and sulfato ligands, forming a three-dimensional network.

Project description:In the title compound, [Mn(2)(C(8)H(3)NO(6))(2)(C(12)H(8)N(2))(2)(H(2)O)(4)], the Mn(II) atom in the centrosymmetric binuclear unit has a distorted octa-hedral geometry and is coordinated by a chelating 1,10-phenanthroline ligand, two monodentate carboxyl-ate anions from two 4-nitro-phthalates and two coordinated water mol-ecules. The two Mn(II) ions in the mol-ecule are bridged by two 4-nitro-phthalate anions, both in a bis-monodentate mode, which finally leads to the formation of the binuclear unit. Intra-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds between the coordinated and uncoordinated O atoms of one monodentate carboxyl-ate group and the corresponding coordinated water mol-ecules result in an eight-membered and two six-membered rings. In the crystal structure, inter-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link the dinuclear mol-ecules into supra-molecular chains propagating parallel to [100].

The distance between the two six-coordinated metal atoms is 5.583?(1)?Å. ?-? stacking inter-actions [inter-planar distances between bpy rings = 3.739?(1)?Å] are essential to the supramolecular assembly. There are extensive inter-ionic C-H?O inter-actions between the cations and between the cation and anion. Three of the four perchlorate O atoms are disordered over two sets of sites with occupancy ratios of 0.852?(6):0.148?(6).

The Cu(II) ion adopts a distorted octa-hedral environment, coordinated by six N atoms from three bpy ligands. The cation charge is balanced by a nitro-prusside counter-anion, which has a slightly distorted octa-hedral coordination geometry. In the crystal, anions and solvent mol-ecules are involved in O-H⋯N and O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, which form chains along [100]. The cations are located between these chains.
