(Ferrocenylmeth-yl)trimethyl-ammonium perchlorate.

ABSTRACT: The asymmetric unit of the title complex, [Fe(C(5)H(5))(C(9)H(15)N)]ClO(4), contains one discrete (ferrocenylmeth-yl)trimethyl-ammonium cation and one perchlorate anion. The anion is disordered over two sets of sites, with refined occupancies of 0.776 (8) and 0.224 (8). The distances from the Fe atom to the centroids of the unsubstituted and substituted cyclo-penta-dienyl (Cp) rings are 1.650 (1) and 1.640 (1) Å, respectively. The Cp rings form a dihedral angle of 2.66 (3)°.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title complex, [Fe(C(5)H(5))(C(11)H(17)N)]ClO(4), contains two independent all-yl(ferro-cenyl-meth-yl)dimethyl-ammonium cations and two ClO(4) (-) anions. The anions are disordered each over two sets of sites, with an occupancy ratio of 0.617?(6):0.383?(6). The distances from the Fe atoms to the centroids of the unsubstituted and substituted cyclo-penta-dienyl (Cp) rings are 1.645?(1)/1.657?(1) and 1.644?(1)/1.647?(1)?Å. The dihedral angles between the two Cp rings are 2.49?(3) and 1.45?(4)° in the two ferrocenyl groups of the cations.

Project description:The crystal structure of the title salt, [Fe(C5H5)(C8H13N)](HC2O4), consists of discrete (ferrocenylmeth-yl)di-methyl-ammonium cations and hydrogen oxalate anions. The anions are connected through a strong O-H?O hydrogen bond, forming linear chains running parallel to [100]. The cations are linked to the anions through bifurcated N-H?(O,O') hydrogen bonds. Weak C-H?? inter-actions between neighbouring ferrocenyl moieties are also observed.

The differences in the two cations are reflected in the N-C-C-C torsion angles [-94.7?(3) and -115.9?(3)°]. In addition, the cations show different hydrogen-bonding patterns as one N atom bonds to two O atoms of ClO(4) (-) ions, while the other N atom is involved in hydrogen bonding with the O atoms of the ClO(4) (-) ions and water mol-ecules. In the crystal, N-H?O and O-H?O hydrogen bonds result in a three-dimensional network. An O atom in each of the anions is disordered over two positions of equal occupancy.

The N atom of the ammonium group is displaced by 1.182?(2)?Å from the plane of the substituted cyclo-penta-dienyl (Cp) ring towards the Fe atom, whereas the C atom attached to the same Cp ring is slightly below this plane by -0.128?(2)?Å. These deviations might result from weak agostic interactions between the two H atoms of the CH2 group and the Fe atom.
