Bis(1H-benzimidazole-?N)bis-[2-(naphthalen-1-yl)acetato-?O,O']manganese(II) monohydrate.

ABSTRACT: In the title compound, [Mn(C(12)H(9)O(2))(2)(C(7)H(6)N(2))(2)]·H(2)O, the Mn(II) ion is located on a twofold rotation axis and six-coordinated, displaying a distorted MnN(2)O(4) octa-hedral geometry. The crystal packing is stabilized by N-H?O hydrogen bonds, which give rise to a one-dimensional structure along [001], and ?-? inter-actions between the imidazole rings and between the benzene rings of the 2-(naphthalen-1-yl)acetate ligands [centroid-centroid distances = 3.761?(3) and 3.728?(4)?Å]. The contribution of the electron density associated with the disordered water molecules was not considerd in the final structure model.

The crystal packing is stabilized by O-H?O and N-H?O hydrogen bonds. The title compound is isotypic with its Cd(II) analogue.

The two Cu(II) atoms [Cu?Cu = 2.7254?(11)?Å] are bridged by four acetate anions. The geometry of the polyhedron around the metal centre can be described as tetra-gonal-pyramidal derived from the calculation of the value ? = 0.0018. The apical positions of the tetra-gonal-pyramidal copper coordination polyhedra are occupied by the N atoms of 2-(2-fur-yl)-1-(2-furylmeth-yl)-1H-benzimidazole ligands. In the crystal structure, mol-ecules are linked into a chain by inter-molecular C-H?O hydrogen bonds parallel to [010]. Two furan rings are disordered over two positions in ratios of 0.55:0.45 and 0.69:0.31.

The crystal studied was an inversion twin, the refined ratio of twin components being 0.75?(4):0.25?(4).
