Designer receptors exclusively activated by designer drugs (DREADDs) represent a powerful chemogenetic technology for the remote control of neuronal activity and cellular signalling<sup>1-4</sup>. The muscarinic receptor-based DREADDs are the most widely used chemogenetic tools in neuroscience research.
