A chiral three-dimensional network in poly[μ-4,4'-bipyridine-di-μ-formato-cadmium(II)].

ABSTRACT: In the title compound, [Cd(HCOO)(2)(C(10)H(8)N(2))](n), the Cd(II) ion, located on a position with 2.22 site symmetry, is surrounded by two 4,4'-bipyridine ligands and four formate ligands in a distorted octahedral CdN(2)O(4) coordination. The 4,4'-bipyridine ligands bridge the metal ions, forming one-dimensional chains along different directions, which are further connected by formate ligands into a topologically (10(10).12(4).14)(10)(3) three-dimensional network.

Project description:In the crystal of the title polymeric compound, [CdBr2(C12H12N2)] n , the Cd(II) cation is located on a twofold rotation axis and is six-coordinated in a distorted octa-hedral geometry formed by two N atoms from the 4,4'-dimethyl-2,2'-bipyridine ligand and by four bridging Br(-) anions. The bridging function of the Br(-) anions leads to a polymeric chain running along the c axis. Weak C-H⋯π inter-actions observed between adjacent chains are effective in the stabilization of the three-dimensional packing.

Project description:In the title polymer, [Cd(C(16)H(10)O(4))(C(10)H(8)N(2))(H(2)O)](n), the Cd(II) ion is in a strongly distorted octa-hedral geometry, being coordinated by two N atoms from a 2,2'-bipyridine ligand, three carboxylate O atoms from two symmetry-related trans-stilbene-4,4'-dicarboxyl-ate dianions and one water mol-ecule. The stilbene ligand lies on an inversion centre at the midpoint of the central C=C bond. This feature generates the polymeric structure: adjacent Cd(II) ions are bridged by trans-stilbene-4,4'-dicarboxyl-ate dianions, giving rise to a one-dimensional structure. The coordinated water mol-ecule is involved in interchain O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound, [CdCl(2)(C(12)H(12)N(2))](n), contains one half-mol-ecule; a twofold rotation axis passes through the Cd atom. The Cd(II) atom is six-coordinated in a distorted octa-hedral configuration by two N atoms from 2,2'-bipyridine-5,5'-dimethyl and four bridging Cl atoms. The bridging function of the chloro atoms leads to a one-dimensional chain structure. There is a π-π contact between the pyridine rings [centroid-centroid distance = 3.9807 (9) Å].
