Project description:The title compound, [Ni(C(7)H(7)OS)(2)(C(3)H(9)P)(2)], was obtained as a product of the reaction of [NiMe(2)(PMe(3))(3)] with two molar equivalents of 4-methoxy-thio-phenol in diethyl ether. The compound is stable in the air for several hours, but rapidly decomposes at room temperature in solution. The Ni atom displays a square-planar coordination with two P-donor atoms lying in trans positions. The benzene rings of the thio-phenolate ligands are almost perpendicular to the square coordination plane, making dihedral angles of 80.43 (4) and 72.60 (4)°.

Project description:The crystal structure of bis-(2-formyl-phenolato-κ(2)O,O')nickel(II), [Ni(C(7)H(5)O(2))(2)], a square-planar centrosymmetric complex, has been reported previously [Li & Chen (2006). Acta Cryst. E62, m1038-m1039]. However, a number of warning signs allows the assumption that the carbonyl group in the salicylaldehydate ligand of the claimed complex is incorrect. The crystal structure was therefore redetermined on basis of the originally deposited structure factors. After substituting the carbonyl O atom by an N atom, the model can be completed with an imine H atom, which was clearly discernible in a difference map. The resulting model, corresponding to bis-[2-(imino-meth-yl)phenolato-κ(2)N,O']nickel(II), [Ni(C(7)H(6)NO)(2)], converges well and none of the previous structural alerts remains. This reinter-pretation is also consistent with the published synthesis, which was carried out using salicylaldehyde in the presence of aqueous NH(3). The reinter-preted structure is virtually identical to earlier reports dealing with this bis-iminato Ni(II) complex.

Project description:In the title compound, [Ni(C(8)H(7)O(3))(NO(3))(C(12)H(12)N(2))(2)], the asymmetric unit contains a Ni(II) atom, two mol-ecules of 2-(benzyl-amino)pyridine, a mol-ecule of deprotonated o-vanillin (3-methoxy-salicylaldehydate) and a bidentate nitrate anion. The Ni(II) center is six-coordinated by two pyridine N atoms from 2-(benzyl-amino)pyridine, two O atoms from o-vanillin and two O atoms from the nitrate anion. The crystal packing shows two hydrogen bonds from the amine N-H group to the deprotonated phenol O atom of the o-vanillin moieties, as well as weak C-H?O secondary inter-actions. These inter-actions link the mol-ecules into ribbons in the c direction. The steric requirement of the bidentate nitrate and its small bite angle [61.01?(3)°] cause some orientation of the two 2-(benzyl-amino)pyridine groups. As a result, this coordination environment of the Ni(II) center is distorted octa-hedral, as the trans angles range from 158.65?(3) to 175.76?(3)° and the cis angles range from 61.01?(3) (for the bidentate nitrate O atoms) to 102.30?(4)°.
