ABSTRACT: The Ni(II) atom in the title salt, [Ni(C(2)H(8)N(2))(3)](C(10)H(6)O(6)S(2)), is chelated by three ethyl-enediamine ligands in an octa-hedral geometry. The cation and anion are linked by N-H?O hydrogen bonds into a three-dimensional network. One of the two -SO(3) groups is disordered over two positions in a 1:1 ratio.

In each complex dication, the Ni(II) atom is coordinated by six N atoms from three en ligands forming a distorted octa-hedral coordination geometry. In the crystal, the ions and water mol-ecules are linked into a three-dimensional framework by a large number of N-H?O and O-H?O hydrogen bonds.

Project description:The structure of the title compound, [Co(II)(C(2)H(8)N(2))(3)]SO(4), the cobalt example of [M(C(2)H(8)N(2))(3)]SO(4), is reported. The Co and S atoms are located at the 2d and 2c Wyckoff sites (point symmetry 32), respectively. The Co atom is coordinated by six N atoms of three chelating ethyl-enediamine mol-ecules generated from half of the ethyl-enediamine mol-ecule in the asymmetric unit. The O atoms of the sulfate anion are disordered mostly over two crystallographic sites. The third disorder site of O (site symmetry 3) has a site occupancy approaching zero. The H atoms of the ethyl-enediamine mol-ecules inter-act with the sulfate anions via inter-molecular N-H?O hydrogen-bonding inter-actions.

In the cation, the Ni(II) ion is six-coordinated by two imidazole ligands [Ni-N = 2.0568 (14) Å] and four water mol-ecules [both independent Ni-O distances are 2.098 (1) Å] in a distorted octa-hedral geometry. Inter-molecular O-H⋯O and N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds form an extensive three-dimensional network, which consolidates the crystal packing.

The Zn(II) ion is coordinated by six N atoms from three ethyl-enediamine mol-ecules. The crystal structure displays weak hydrogen bonding between [SiF(6)](2-) anions and the ethyl-enediamine NH hydrogen atoms.

One Ni(II) ion is located on an inversion center and is coordinated by six imidazole mol-ecules, while the other Ni(II) ion is located on a twofold rotation axis and is coordinated by three water mol-ecules and three imidazole mol-ecules in a mer-NiN(3)O(3) arrangement. The naphthalene-dicarboxyl-ate dianion links both Ni(II) complex cations via O-H?O and N-H?O hydrogen bonding, but no ?-? stacking is observed between aromatic rings in the crystal structure. One imidazole ligand is equally disordered over two sites about a twofold rotation axis; one N atom and one water O atom have site symmetry 2.
