ABSTRACT: In the title complex, [Co(CO3)(NH3)4]ClO4, both the cation and anion lie on a mirror plane. The Co(III) ion is coordinated by two NH3 ligands and a chelating carbonato ligand in the equatorial sites and by two NH3 groups in the axial sites, forming a distorted octa-hedral geometry. In the crystal, N-H?O hydrogen bonds connect the anions and cations, forming a three-dimensional network.

Project description:Practical chemistry courses at universities very frequently propose the synthesis and characterization of [Co(CO3)(NH3)4]NO3, but this goal is never achieved since students only obtain the hemihydrated form. The anhydrous form can be prepared, however, and its structure is presented here. Similar to the hemihydrate form, the anhydrous phase contains the Co(III) ion in an octahedral O2N4 coordination by a chelating carbonate group and four ammine ligands. The structure reveals an intricate array of N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds involving both the chelating and the non-chelating O atoms of the carbonate ligand as hydrogen-bond acceptors of the amine H atoms, which are also involved in hydrogen-bonding inter-actions with the nitrate O atoms. The structure of the anhydrous form is close to that of the hemihydrate phase, suggesting a probable topotactic reaction with relatively small rotations and translations of the [Co(CO3)(NH3)4](+) and NO3 (-) groups during the dehydration process, which produces an unusual volume increase of 4.3%.

Project description:The crystal structure of the title compound, [Co(CO(3))(C(12)H(8)N(2))(2)]NO(3)·H(2)O, consists of Co(III) complex cations, nitrate anions and uncoordinated water mol-ecules. The Co(III) cation is chelated by a carbonate anion and two phenanthroline ligands in a distorted octa-hedral coordination geometry. A three-dimensional supra-molecular structure is formed by O-H?O and C-H?O hydrogen bonding, C-H?? and aromatic ?-? stacking [centroid-centroid distance = 3.995?(1)Å] inter-actions.

Project description:In the title compound, [Co(CO(3))(C(10)H(9)N(3))(2)]Br, a distorted octa-hedral coordination of the Co(III) atom is completed by four N atoms of the two chelating di-2-pyridyl-amine ligands and two O atoms of the chelating carbonate anion. The di-2-pyridyl-amine ligands are nonplanar and the dihedral angles between the 2-pyridyl groups are 29.11 (9) and 37.15 (12)°. The coordination cation, which has approximate C(2) symmetry, is connected to the bromide ion via an N-H⋯Br(-) hydrogen bond. The ionic pair thus formed is further assembled into a dimer via N-H⋯O inter-actions about an inversion centre. A set of weaker C-H⋯O and C-H⋯Br(-) inter-actions connect the dimers into a three-dimensional network.

Project description:In the mol-ecule of the title compound, [Co(C(44)H(24)Cl(4)N(4)){(C(4)H(9))(3)P}(2)]ClO(4), the Co(III) centre has a slightly distorted octa-hedral geometry and is coordinated by four N atoms of the tetra-pyrrolic ring in the equatorial positions and two phosphine ligands in the axial positions. The dihedral angles between meso-substituted chloro-phenyl rings and the basic tetra-pyrrolic ring are 82.66 (9), 82.16 (7), 83.97 (11) and 76.87 (8)°. In one of the phosphine ligands, the two terminal methyl groups are disordered over two positions with refined site-occupancy ratios of 0.70 (7):0.30 (7) and 0.66 (2):0.34 (2). In the crystal structure, mol-ecules are linked together along the a axis by inter-molecular C-H⋯Cl inter-actions. The crystal structure is further stabilized by intra-molecular C-H⋯O and C-H⋯N inter-actions and inter-molecular C-H⋯O and C-H⋯π inter-actions.

Project description:In the title complex, [Co(CO(3))(C(12)H(12)N(2))(2)]Br·3H(2)O, the Co(III) cation has a distorted octa-hedral coordination environment. It is chelated by four N atoms of two different 5,5'-dimethyl-2,2'-bipyridyl (dmbpy) ligands in axial and equatorial positions, and by two O atoms of a carbonate anion completing the equatorial positions. Although the water mol-ecules are disordered and their H atoms were not located, there are typical O?O distances between 2.8 and 3.0?Å, indicating O-H?O hydrogen bonding. The crystal packing is consolidated by C-H?O and C-H?Br hydrogen bonds, as well as ?-? stacking inter-actions between adjacent pyridine rings of the dmbpy ligands, with centroid-centroid distances of 3.694?(3) and 3.7053?(3)?Å.

Project description:In the crystal of the title compound, [Ni(CO3)(C14H32P2)], the metal center in each of three independent mol-ecules shows slight tetra-hedral distortion from ideal square-planar coordination geometry, with angles between the normals to the planes defined by the cis-P-Ni-P and cis-O-Ni-O fragments of 3.92 (17), 0.70 (16) and 2.17 (14)° in the three mol-ecules. Project description:In the mononuclear title complex, [Co(C(18)H(18)N(2)O(2))(C(4)H(9)N)(2)]ClO(4)·0.5C(8)H(10), the Co(III) ion has a slightly distorted octa-hedral coordination geometry. In the Me-salen ligand, the benzene rings are almost parallel, making a dihedral angle of 0.48 (13)°, but the torsion angle along the central C-C bond is 41.1 (2)°·The pyrrolidine rings are in slightly distorted chair conformations. The N atoms of the pyrrolidine axial ligands are involved in N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds with the perchlorate anions, and these hydrogen bonds connect the ionic species into infinite chains along the b axis. Some relatively short C-H⋯π inter-actions are also present in the crystal structure and C-H⋯O inter-actions occur. The guest solvent p-xylene mol-ecule lies on a special position at the inversion centre.

Project description:In the title compound, [Co(C21H15O3)3], the Co(III) ion is coordinated in a slightly distorted octa-hedral environment by three phenolate O and three benzoyl O atoms from three monoanionic bidentate 2,6-dibenzoyl-4-methyl-phenolate ligands. The dihedral angles between the mean planes of the central phenolate rings and the peripheral phenyl rings are 46.62 (10)/87.06 (9), 60.44 (8)/23.13 (8) and 46.49 (6)/65.29 (6)°. The crystal packing is stabilized by weak inter-molecular C-H⋯O inter-actions. Mol-ecules are further linked by two π-π [centroid-centroid distances = 3.8612 (14) and 3.9479 (14) Å] and four C-H⋯π inter-actions, forming a three-dimensional network.

Project description:The dinuclear title complex, [Co2(C5H7O2)4(μ-OH)2] or [Co(acac)2(μ-OH)]2, where acac is acetyl-acetonate, is centrosymmetric with half of the mol-ecule per asymmetric unit. The mol-ecular structure is a dimer of octa-hedrally coordinated Co(III) atoms with four O atoms from two chelating acac ligands and two O atoms from bridging hydroxide ligands. The crystal packing features weak C-H⋯O inter-actions between neighboring mol-ecules, leading to the formation of chains normal to the ac plane. The hydroxide H atoms are not involved in hydrogen bonding because of the bulky acac ligands. This is the first crystal structure reported of a dimeric transition metal bis-acac complex with OH(-) as the bridging group.
