ABSTRACT: In the title compound, [Co(C(9)H(8)Br(2)NO)(2)], the Co(II) atom, located on a twofold axis, is in a pseudo-tetra-hedral environment, with two bidentate 2,4-dibromo-6-(ethyl-imino-meth-yl)phenolate Schiff base ligands acting as chelates through their phenolate O and azomethine N atoms. C-H?O hydrogen bonds link the complex mol-ecules to form a chain parallel to the b axis.

The coordination of the metal atom by the two N,O-bidentate ligands results in a squashed CoN(2)O(2) tetra-hedron. The six-membered chelate ring is an envelope, with the metal atom as the flap. The dihedral angle between the planes of the aromatic rings within each ligand is 84.1?(6)°.

Project description:The title compound, [Cu(2)(NCS)(2)(C(13)H(17)Cl(2)N(2)O)(2)], was obtained by the reaction of 3,5-dichloro-salicylaldehyde, N,N-diethyl-ethane-1,2-diamine, sodium thio-cyanate, and copper(II) acetate in an ethanol solution. It crystallizes as a centrosymmetric dimer with a very long Cu?S axial bond [2.972?(3)?Å]. The Cu atom is five-coordinated by the three donor atoms of the Schiff base ligand, 2,4-dichloro-6-[(2-diethyl-amino-ethyl-imino)meth-yl]phenol, one N atom of a thio-cyanate group, and one S atom of a symmetry-related thio-cyanate group, forming a slightly distorted square-pyramidal geometry.
