ABSTRACT: In the title salt, [ReO(2)(C(5)H(5)N)(4)]I(3), the cation and anion are both located on centres of symmetry. The Re(V) atom adopts a trans-ReO(2)N(4) octa-hedral coordination and short intra-molecular C-H?O contacts occur within the cation. In the crystal, the cations form layers perpendicular to [100] and a weak C-H?O inter-action links the cations.

The crystal structure of this complex contains a Re(V) atom in a slightly distorted octahedral coordination geometry with pairs of equivalent ligands in trans positions. Adjacent complex mol-ecules are linked by weak C-H?Cl hydrogen bonds. The crystal structure is additionally stabilized by ?-? stacking inter-actions between the aromatic rings with centroid-centroid distances of 3.546?(4)?Å.

Project description:The title compound, C(9)H(14)N(+)·I(3) (-)·C(9)H(13)N, consists of monoprotonated 4-tert-butyl-pyridinium cations and triiodide anions. The triiodide ion has near-symmetric linear geometry, with bond lengths of 2.9105 (4) Å (I-I) and a bond angle of 177.55 (3)° (I-I-I). For this room-temperature structure, the butyl group on the pyridine ring is disordered and has been treated as a rigid rotator, modeled in three separate positions with 1/3, 1/3, 1/3 occupancies. The cations assemble into dimeric forms by way of N-H⋯N hydrogen bonds.

Project description:The title compound, [Re(4)(?(3)-OH)(4)(CO)(12)]·4C(5)H(5)N, crystallizes with one tetranuclear rhenium(I) cubane-like molecule and four pyridine mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit. The coordination environment of each Re(I) atom is distorted octahedral. Four intra-molecular O-H?N and four inter-molecular C-H?O hydrogen-bond inter-actions are observed. Relatively strong hydrogen bonds are found between the hydrogen-bond donor (?(3)-OH) and acceptor (basic N atom of pyridine), with N?O distances between 2.586?(10) and 2.628?(10)?Å. Inter-cube distances of 9.873?(2) and 12.376?(3)?Å are observed.

Project description:In the title compound, [Re(C(5)H(4)F(3)O(2))(C(5)H(5)N)(CO)(3)], the Re(I) atom is six-coordinated owing to bonding by three carbonyl ligands arranged in a fac configuration, two O atoms from the bidentate 1,1,1-trifluoro-acetyl-acetonate ligand and an N atom from a pyridine ligand. In the crystal, the mol-ecules pack in layers, diagonally, in a head-to-tail fashion across the ab plane. These layers are stabilsed by inter-molecular C-H?O and C-H?F hydrogen bonds.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title complex, [PdCl(2)(C(11)H(9)N)(2)], contains one half of a neutral Pd(II) complex, with the complete mol-ecule generated by the application of a twofold rotation axis; the N-Pd-N atoms lie on the axis. The Pd(II) ion has a trans-Cl(2)N(2) square-planar coordination geometry defined by two N atoms from two 4-phenyl-pyridine ligands and two Cl(-) anions. In the refinement, the pyridine ring and the phenyl ring were found to be disordered over two sites with the site-occupancy factors being 0.53?(2) and 0.51?(1), respectively, for the major components.

Catalytic Activity of <i>trans</i>-Bis(pyridine)gold Complexes.

Project description:Gold catalysis has become one of the fastest growing fields in chemistry, providing new organic transformations and offering excellent chemoselectivities under mild reaction conditions. Methodological developments have been driven by wide applicability in the synthesis of complex structures, whereas the mechanistic understanding of Au(III)-mediated processes remains scanty and have become the Achilles' heel of methodology development. Herein, the systematic investigation of the reactivity of bis(pyridine)-ligated Au(III) complexes is presented, based on NMR spectroscopic, X-ray crystallographic, and DFT data. The electron density of pyridines modulates the catalytic activity of Au(III) complexes in propargyl ester cyclopropanation of styrene. To avoid strain induced by a ligand with a nonoptimal nitrogen-nitrogen distance, bidentate bis(pyridine)-Au(III) complexes convert into dimers. For the first time, bis(pyridine)Au(I) complexes are shown to be catalytically active, with their reactivity being modulated by strain.

Project description:In the structures of the 2,6-bis-(1,2,4-triazoly-3-yl)methyl-substituted pyridine compound, C11H11N7, (I) and the iodide triiodide salt, C13H17N7 (2+)·I(-)·I3 (-), (II), the dihedral angles between the two triazole rings and the pyridine ring are 66.4 (1) and 74.6 (1)° in (I), and 68.4 (2)° in (II), in which the dication lies across a crystallographic mirror plane. The overall packing structure for (I) is two-dimensional with the layers lying parallel to the (001) plane. In (II), the triiodide anion lies within the mirror plane, occupying the space between the two triazole substituent groups and was found to have minor disorder [occupancy ratio 0.9761 (9):0.0239 (9)]. The overall packing of structure (II) can be described as two-dimensional with the layers stacking parallel to the (001) plane. In the crystal, the predominant inter-molecular inter-actions in (I) and (II) involve the acidic hydrogen atom in the third position of the triazole ring, with either the triazole N-atom acceptor in weak C-H⋯N hydrogen bonds in (I), or with halide counter-ions through C-H⋯I inter-actions, in (II).
