ABSTRACT: The Sn(IV) atom in the title compound, [Sn(C(4)H(9))(2)Cl(2)(C(12)H(8)N(2))], is chelated by the N-heterocycle; the n-butyl groups are trans to each other whereas the Cl atoms are cis to each other. The crystal studied was a non-merohedral twin with the minor domain being in a 15.8?(1)% proportion.

The axis passes through the mid-point of the 1,10 and 5,6 bonds of the N-heterocycle and through the Sn atom. The Sn atoms show a slightly distorted SnC(2)N(4) octa-hedral coordination.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title organotin(IV) compound, [Sn(C(4)H(9))(2)(C(5)H(3)N(2)O(2))(2)(H(2)O)], contains one-and-a-half mol-ecules. The half-mol-ecule is completed by crystallographic twofold symmetry, with its Sn and water O atoms lying on the rotation axis. Both mol-ecules feature seven-coordinate Sn atoms in trans-C(2)SnN(2)O(3) penta-gonal-bipyramidal coordination environments. The carboxyl-ate anions N,O-chelate to the Sn atom. In the crystal, the carboxyl-ate O atoms not involved in coordination serve as acceptors for O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds from adjacent water mol-ecules, generating a three-dimensional network.

Antitumor Activity of 2,9-Di-Sec-Butyl-1,10-Phenanthroline.

Project description:The anti-tumor effect of a chelating phen-based ligand 2,9-di-sec-butyl-1,10-phenanthroline (dsBPT) and its combination with cisplatin were examined in both lung and head and neck cancer cell lines and xenograft animal models in this study. The effects of this agent on cell cycle and apoptosis were investigated. Protein markers relevant to these mechanisms were also assessed. We found that the inhibitory effect of dsBPT on lung and head and neck cancer cell growth (IC50 ranged between 0.1-0.2 μM) was 10 times greater than that on normal epithelial cells. dsBPT alone induced autophagy, G1 cell cycle arrest, and apoptosis. Our in vivo studies indicated that dsBPT inhibited tumor growth in a dose-dependent manner in a head and neck cancer xenograft mouse model. The combination of dsBPT with cisplatin synergistically inhibited cancer cell growth with a combination index of 0.3. Moreover, the combination significantly reduced tumor volume as compared with the untreated control (p = 0.0017) in a head and neck cancer xenograft model. No organ related toxicities were observed in treated animals. Our data suggest that dsBPT is a novel and potent antitumor drug that warrants further preclinical and clinical development either as a single agent or in combination with known chemotherapy drugs such as cisplatin.

Project description:The title compound, [Sn(C4H9)2(C2O4)] n , an unexpected side product in the reaction of di-tert-butyl-tin(IV) oxide with nitric acid, represents the first diorganotin(IV) oxalate to be structurally characterized. The Sn(IV) atom of the one-dimensional coordination polymer is located on a mirror plane and is coordinated by two chelating oxalate ions with two rather different Sn-O bond lengths of 2.150 (1) and 2.425 (1) Å, and two t-butyl groups with Sn-C bond lengths of 2.186 (2) and 2.190 (2) Å. The coordination polyhedron around the Sn(IV) atom is a distorted tetra-gonal disphenoid. The centrosymmetric oxalate ion also has an asymmetric coordination geometry, as reflected by the two slightly different C-O bond lengths of 1.242 (2) and 1.269 (2) Å. The chains of the polymer propagate along the b-axis direction. Only van der Waals inter-actions are observed between the chains.

Synth. Chem. 13, 55-57], has been redetermined in the monoclinic space group C2/c from low-temperature diffraction measurements. The Sn atom is five-coordinate in a trans-C(3)SnClO trigonal-bipyramidal geometry; the coordinated water mol-ecule forms a pair of hydrogen bonds to the nitro-gen heterocycle.

The nearly planar mol-ecules, with a maximum deviation of 0.120?(3)?Å from the least-squares plane, are stacked in columns along the c axis with a Pd?Pd distance of 4.8340?(9)?Å. In the column, ?-? inter-actions between adjacent six-membered rings are present, the shortest centroid-centroid distance being 3.680?(4)?Å. A weak C-H?Cl inter-action is observed between the columns.
